Everything was completely still.
About a hundred people were resting in silence during an overnight ferry crossing from Hull to Holland. The room was pitch black, filled only with the soft hum of the engines and the occasional snore.
With no seats left, my friends and I ended up lying on the floor, trying to get some sleep.
Just as I was about to drift off, it happened.
A sudden sound broke the silence. It started quietly… then built into something impossible to ignore.
My friend had just let out the loudest, longest fart imaginable.
I tried to hold it in. I really did.
But within seconds, we were all laughing uncontrollably and had to rush out of the room before waking everyone up.
Arriving in Holland
After docking, we boarded a coach heading toward Amsterdam.
The scenery looked exactly like you’d expect endless flat land, classic windmills spinning in the breeze, and a calm atmosphere that stretched for miles.
Fun fact: a large part of the Netherlands actually lies below sea level.
Lost in Amsterdam
We arrived in the heart of Amsterdam, surrounded by canals that cut through the city like a maze.
With no hotel booked, we stood outside the central station trying to figure out our next move.
Then, out of nowhere, a woman approached us.
“Are you lads looking for a room?” she asked.
Perfect timing.
She offered us a place just a couple of stops away and just like that, our problem was solved.
A Surreal Experience
Amsterdam turned out to be unlike any place we had ever been.
The atmosphere was relaxed, the streets were alive, and the experience felt almost dreamlike.
Time seemed to blur. One day flowed into the next without us even noticing.
Before we knew it, the trip was over.
